South Africa’s top-ranked player Louis Oosthuizen has withdrawn from the 100th PGA Championship just minutes before his first round.
The PGA Championship confirmed the news midway through Thursday’s play.
Oosthuizen cited a back injury in his second withdrawal in recent weeks after the 34-year-old missed the Scottish Open with a neck niggle.
The one-time Major winner, who completed his career slam of finishing second at all four Major events in this tournament last year, would be replaced in the field by American Kelly Kraft.
Oosthuizen was due to tee off at 20:59 with Thomas Pieters and Bill Haas.
