Branden Grace and George Coetzee were the unlikely two to narrowly miss the cut at The Open Championship after the cut line was set at +3 on Friday.

Grace bogeyed his 17th hole during round two to miss the mark by one with Coetzee dropping a shot at the last to join Grace at +4 and missing the weekend by a single shot.

Also missing the cut is veteran Ernie Els, who played his 100th round at The Open on Friday. The two-time Claret Jug winner made just two birdies en route to a 76 as he missed the mark, as did long-time contemporary Retief Goosen.

    Five into the weekend:

    Zander Lombard -4

    Erik van Rooyen -4

    Brandon Stone -2

    Louis Oosthuizen E

    Shaun Norris E

    Seven heading home:

    Branden Grace +4

    George Coetzee +4

    Charl Schwartzel +5

    Ernie Els +7

    Dylan Frittelli +8

    Retief Goosen +9

    Jovan Rebula (a) +18
