Nedbank Golf Challenge winner of 2012, Martin Kaymer, wants more big events to be played in South Africa, following the success of the first Rolex Series event in the country.

Kaymer, a two-time Major winner, secured his best finish on the European Tour in a place he tends to do well in since January’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The German’s world ranking has dropped in recent years, but his popularity in South Africa has gone from strength to strength, with the home crowd giving him plenty of support this week.

‘I always enjoy it because I’ve done well here in the past, and I usually do well here,’ Kaymer said after he finished fifth at the Gary Player Country Club.

    ‘I like the crowds.

‘They are really on my side. I get a lot of support. Coming to South Africa, it’s a shame that they have only one really big tournament here.

‘In my opinion, they should have a couple more.’
