Jon Rahm’s impressive victory at the Irish Open saw the 22-year-old Spaniard move to a career-high No 8 in the official world rankings released on Monday.

Going into the event, hosted by the Rory McIlroy Foundation, Rahm was 11th, but the win saw him leapfrog Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler and Alex Noren. It’s been a remarkable rise for Rahm, who ended 2016 ranked 137th in the world.

The rankings can often confuse the most mathematical of minds and Louis Oosthuizen finds himself moving up one position to No 22, despite not playing since the US Open. Charl Schwartzel, who has also not played since Erin Hills, drops one spot to 19th, while Branden Grace remains at No 35.

American Xander Schauffele’s maiden victory on the PGA Tour, winning The Greenbrier Classic by one shot, saw him break into the world’s top 100 for the first time, moving up 77 places to 82nd.
