Tyrone van Aswegen shot 66 on Friday at TPC River Highlands to lead the Travelers Championship on seven-under-par for the tournament.
‘I’m just hitting it nicely and making a lot of putts. That’s always a difference maker. When you’re seeing the lines with good speed they tend to go in a lot,’ he said.
The South African was bogey-free after two rounds and shared top spot with Daniel Berger, Russell Henley, and Marc Leishman.
‘Just not think of making bogeys,’ said Van Aswegen. ‘If you go out there and just take care of your business and just hit good shots you’re probably not going to make a lot of bogeys.’
Earlier this year he tied for third place at the Frys.com Open, but currently ranks 114th in the FedEx Cup standings and needs a good result to secure his place at the season-ending playoffs series.
For the moment, he’s focusing on maintaining his good form.
‘I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully play well again. I feel like my swing coach this week, Robert Baker, he’s helped me a lot just getting a little bit more in the slot. I’m holing a lot of putts. It’s a good combination. Hopefully I can keep rolling it,’ he said.
